Excursion to Tuusula lake RoadTuesday, June 8 Time: 10.00-15.00 hrs Price: EUR 140,00 The excursion begins from the hotels where you will meet your English speaking guide. During the tour you will get acquainted with Finnish cultural history in Tuusula, the cradle of Finnish art. Driving time to Tuusula is about 45 min. ii The tour heads to Tuusula, where a large number of Finnish artists settled along the shores of Lake Tuusula at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. These artists created a distinctive community; one of them was the composer Jean Sibelius. On the road that follows the shore you can still enjoy the historical setting and sense the rich artistic and cultural atmosphere. Visit to Ainola and Halosenniemi. ii Ainola stands on the scenic shores of Lake Tuusula in Järvenpää. It was the home of Jean Sibelius and his family from 1904. This timber-built villa was designed by the famous Finnish architect Lars Sonck. Its distance from the hustle and bustle of the nation’s capital gave the composer the peace that he needed for his creative endeavours, while other artistic families living in the neighbourhood provided a lively social circle. ii The excursion continues to Halosenniemi, the ‘wilderness studio’ of the Finnish painter Pekka Halonen. Built on the cape of Lake Tuusula between 1899–1902, it served as an idyllic home and studio for the artist and his family for many years. The imposing yet gracefully simple timber villa and its interiors were designed and built by Halonen. A work of art in itself, the villa was a labour of love to which he devoted a great deal of time and planning, elegantly combining Finnish vernacular architecture with a touch of Continental Art Nouveau. ii Buffet lunch at Krapi. Krapi estate is located amid a nationally prestigious cultural environment in Tuusula and comprises a hotel, restaurants, a chimneyless sauna and a large park area offering a wide variety of activities. ii Departure to Helsinki. ii Tour ends at the hotels. ii Duration 5 hours ii Minimum group size: 20 persons |
