Tikhvin Smelting Plant, Russia

The Tikhvin Smelting Plant is situated in the small town of Tikhvin, 200km south east of St. Petersburg, Russia. The smelter site is located in an industrial sanitation zone on the outskirts of the town, adjacent to an existing industrial complex. It is designed to receive and smelt chrome ore from the Voskhod mine in Kazakhstan into high carbon ferrochrome for use predominantly in the stainless steel industry. The other raw materials used in the ferrochrome smelting process are metallurgical coke as a reductant and a quartzite flux. The plant comprises four 22.5 MVA semi-closed SAF`s.
